رجحت المنظمة الدولية للهجرة أمس (الجمعة)، أن تكون حصيلة غرق المركب الذي كان يقل لاجئين من الروهينغا قبالة سواحل بنغلاديش بلغت 60 قتيلاً.
وقال المتحدث باسم المنظمة التابعة للأمم المتحدة جويل ميلمان للصحفيين في جنيف: تأكد مقتل 23 شخصاً وهناك 40 مفقودون ويرجح أنهم غرقوا، في إشارة إلى حادثة وقعت أمس الأول، مضيفاً أن الحصيلة الإجمالية يرجح أن تبلغ 60 قتيلاً، بعدما كانت حصيلة سابقة تشير إلى مقتل 19 شخصاً. وروى ناجون من الحادثة لموظفي المنظمة الدولية للهجرة، أن المركب كان يقل نحو 80 شخصاً؛ بينهم 50 طفلاً فارين من حملة التطهير العرقي التي يشنها جيش بورما ضد المسلمين في ولاية راخين في شمال البلاد. ودعت مندوبة الولايات المتحدة بالمنظمة نيكي هيلي أمس الأول، الدول إلى تعليق إمداد بورما بالأسلحة حتى يتخذ الجيش الإجراءات الكافية للمحاسبة. وهذه هي المرة الأولى التي تدعو فيها الولايات المتحدة لمعاقبة القادة العسكريين الذين يقفون وراء القمع. وقالت هيلي لمجلس الأمن «لا نخشى أن نصف أفعال سلطات بورما بما تبدو عليه بأنها حملة وحشية ومستدامة لتطهير بلد من أقلية عرقية».
